3-D Compounding of B-Scan Ultrasound Images

چکیده
Two applications of volume registration in 3-D ultrasound imaging, extended volume imaging (EVI) and 3-D Spatial compounding, are demonstrated both in phantom and clinical scans. Extended volumes were composed by obtaining partly overlapping scans, registering the overlapping volumes, and displaying the complete set of volumes in their relative spatial orientations as determined by the registration procedure. 3-D compound images were created by scanning volumes from several elevational look directions, registering, and averaging the different views. In both applications, the volume registration worked accurately and provided significant image improvements.

Spatial Compounding of 3-D Ultrasound Images
One of the most promising applications of 3-D ultrasound lies in the visualisation and volume estimation of internal 3-D structures. Unfortunately, the quality of the ultrasound data can be severely degraded by artifacts, especially speckle, making automatic analysis of the 3-D data sets very di cult. In this paper we investigate the use of 3-D spatial compounding to reduce speckle. We develop ...
متن کاملMMSE Reconstruction for 3D Freehand Ultrasound Imaging
The reconstruction of 3D ultrasound (US) images from mechanically registered, but otherwise irregularly positioned, B-scan slices is of great interest in image guided therapy procedures. Conventional 3D ultrasound algorithms have low computational complexity, but the reconstructed volume suffers from severe speckle contamination. Furthermore, the current method cannot reconstruct uniform high-r...
متن کاملSpatial Angular Compounding Technique for H-Scan Ultrasound Imaging.
H-Scan is a new ultrasound imaging technique that relies on matching a model of pulse-echo formation to the mathematics of a class of Gaussian-weighted Hermite polynomials. This technique may be beneficial in the measurement of relative scatterer sizes and in cancer therapy, particularly for early response to drug treatment. Because current H-scan techniques use focused ultrasound data acquisit...
متن کاملUltrasound Spatial Compound Scanner for Improved Visualization in Vascular Imaging
A new off-line multi-angle ultrasound compound scanner has been built with the aim of improving visualization of vascular tissue. Images are recorded from 3 to 11 insonification angles over a range of 40 to 50 degrees and the individual images are combined (averaged) into a single image (spatial compounding). Compared to conventional B-mode imaging, this multi-angle compound imaging (MACI) meth...
متن کاملResolution Enhancement and Frequency Compounding Techniques in Ultrasound . Proposal Type : Innovative Student
Ultrasound non destructive evaluation uses high frequency ultrasound to interrogate materials without affecting their performance or structure. The overreaching goal of this project is to effectively characterize and image Biofilms that are known to cause infections in the middle ear epithelial surfaces in children. The quality of B-scan images generated is primarily governed by the axial resol...
